Adrenal Conditions

The adrenal glands produce a number of essential hormones. When the adrenal gland is not functioning properly, it is as the result of an underlying disease. Blood tests and special stimulation tests are used to determine the presence of adrenal insufficiency.

Symptoms of Adrenal Insufficiency

Adrenal insufficiency (also called Addison’s Disease) causes a variety of non-specific symptoms related to the underlying disease. The most common include:

  • Fatigue
  • Loss of body hair
  • Skin discoloration
  • Body aches
  • Low blood pressure
  • Lightheadedness
  • Unexplained weight loss

Adrenal insufficiency responds to treatment of whatever underlying disease has disrupted the function of the adrenal glands.
